The goal of this course is to train and increase participant’s knowledge of the definition of Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) in California in addition to the CSEC risk factors. Although it is aimed at violence peer counselors, this course is suitable for anyone who provides peer support services and/or works with young adults. The information covered in this course include:

  • The definition of CSEC
  • Risk factors linked to CSEC
  • Community Violence
  • What to do if you suspect someone is CSEC

Through this course of 5 lectures, over 30 minutes of video content and 1 quiz, participants will be able to define CSEC including types of exploitation, understand the CSEC risk factors, and explain the connection between CSEC and community violence.

The exploitation of children is a human rights issue. CSEC is a form of human trafficking and violence. Understanding the definition of CSEC, risk factors linked to CSEC, and connection between CSEC and community violence will enable peer counselors or anyone who provides peer support services to better serve the community and clients. It is important to remember that the needs of CSEC are very specific. Thus this course will greatly benefit those in this field of work.
